The symphony, conducted by Jacob Chi, will feature vocalists Sal Viviano and Kip Wilborn in “Frank and Mario II,” a tribute to the songs of Sinatra and Mario Lanza. This is the duo’s second time performing songs from those legendary singers in 2007, Wilborn and Viviano brought “Frank and Mario – Together Once more for the 1st Time” to Pueblo. The concert will take place at 2:30 pm Dec. 13 at Hoag Hall on the campus of Colorado State University-Pueblo. Sinatra’s legacy is nicely recognized. Lanza’s career, although brief (he died in 1959 at the age of 38), brought him worldwide accolades. Viviano, a baritone, has starred in several shows on Broadway and appeared with far more than 40 orchestras. Wilborn has had starring roles in opera and musical comedy productions in North America and Europe he has played Pinkerton in “Madama Butterfly,” a role also played by Lanza. In a nod to the holiday season, the concert’s closing number will be Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus.” Barbara Beck, Betsy Barto, Todd Albrecht and vocal music students from Canon City High School will perform the piece with Wilborn and Viviano.
